“Above all, do not lose your desire to walk. Every day I walk myself into a state of well-being and walk away from every illness. I have walked myself into my best thoughts, and I know of no thought so burdensome that one cannot walk away from it.” ~Søren Kierkegaard
In recent years, since retirement I have spent much of my time involved in activities designed to encourage residents and visitors to get out and enjoy the beautiful countryside around the village of Herstmonceux. To encourage people I have written eight walk pamphlets describing walking routes in the area. These are freely available from a number of outlets around the village. I started The Truggers group under the Vitality Villages banner with the aim of making the local footpath network easier to negotiate and more accessible.
… and then came Coronavirus!
During the lockdown many more people were out walking. Many more people wanted to know where they could walk. And many more people wanted to see where people had walked. So I am starting this web site. Firstly to share the routes illustrated in the Walks Around Herstmonceux pamphlets, and secondly to show people the work being undertaken by members of the Truggers group..
The pamphlets are listed on the Walk Pamphlets page. They are in a slightly changed format and can be printed using your browser’s print function or using the Share button at the end of each route. Enjoy!
The Truggers group’s work can be split in to two parts :- footpath clearance and footpath improvement, which usually means replacing traditional stiles with something more accessible to the wider public. Further information on what we do can be found on the Truggers page.
